Newborn Essentials I Actually Used
There are so many baby products out there, and as moms we just want to choose what’s best for our babies. But in those early months, I found that only a handful of simple, practical essentials truly made a difference. This guide breaks down the baby must‑haves I actually used — the simple, practical items that make feeding, changing, soothing, and everyday newborn life easier. If you’re a new mom wondering what you truly need, these essentials keep things calm, minimal, and manageable.
Sound Machine - Cue to tell baby it’s time to rest and drown out noises
Blackout Shades - We still have these in my 3 year old son’s room and travel with them.
Swaddles - Newborns have opinions! Before buying any back-ups, see if your baby has a strong preference. Our kids luckily loved the same brand.
Magnetic Onesies - Becoming a mom unlocked fears I never knew existed…including zipping my precious newborns skin in the middle of the night.
Lounger - Safe, simple place to set baby down that moves with you.
Diaper Caddy - I had one upstairs and one downstairs that included diapers wipes, paste and a change of clothes
Diaper Rash Cream - We tried so many, until we locked in on this brand
Electric Nail Trimmer - We used this nail trimmer all the way through toddlerhood. In the newborn stage, I wanted to avoid an accidental clip and in the toddler stage, nail trimming should be an olympic sport
Nose Suction Tool - Easy!
Fragrance Free Detergent - We switched our whole family to this, not just baby
This wasn’t a must-have, but it’s one of those luxury upgrades we’ve gotten every bit of our money’s worth from over 6+ years. The Uppababy Vista naviagtes well and I’ve that it grows with stages. I am not a runner, but have heard this does not do well during runs!
